Fall Sports: "Your at your own risk!"

I was so excited to get back out on the field for fall sports this weekend... literally! As I was walking onto the Ravenscroft football field Friday night, I stopped to have a quick chat with one of the refs. I like to let them know I come in peace and respect their boundaries! ;-) As I was asking him about the boundaries for press photographers, he politely said that "as long as you stay behind the double white all will be good", and he ended it with, "and as always, your at your own risk". That last statement is why I absolutely love fall sports. There is nothing like being down on the field completely immersed in the action. You can see the muscles strain in the athletes, feel the emotion of the game, see the steam rising off of the players on a cool fall night!

I will admit that it can be a tad unnerving when the quarterback just made the all important pass to one of his wide receivers, the WR starts his zig zag down the field with the defense at his heels. He's grabbed from behind, you've got the tackle in focus and then bam your in your car looking at the side mirror reading the warning label "objects in mirror are closer than they appear". Your first instinct is to save the camera, so what do you do... run for dear life with your camera above your head, that way your body might get broken by the 6ft 250 lbs of muscle mass heading straight for you, but your camera will be just dandy. Their are priorities after all!

I freelance for an awesome magazine - VYPE High School Sports Magazine (http://www.vype.com/raleighdurham/) that focuses on High School Sports and Athletes in the Triangle area. It is such a fun change of pace for me in that I can show up to the sporting event just before kick off, turn my head off and just shoot!
